When you go, you can expect an event full of entertainment for the whole family! You will see your favorite characters engage in world-class skating, high-flying acrobatics, and unexpected stunts! Tips for Disney On Ice with Kids
I took the boys recently to see Disney On Ice Mickey’s Search Party and it was an awesome experience for them. They are almost 4 and 6 years old and they both enjoyed the show from start to finish! This show was filled with unexpected stunts and there were many of there favorite Disney songs and characters from Toy Story, Aladdin, Frozen, Moana, and Coco!
Before You Head to the Show
I definitely recommend feeding the kids before you head to the show. There will be some concession stands once you get there but they sell snacks at a premium price and I saw more “snacky” type foods rather than “meal” type foods. So I definitely recommend filling those little bellies beforehand. Also, if your child has any sensory sensitivities, be sure to consider any of those needs. My oldest son did mention at one point that the music was too loud so consider bringing noise reduction headphones for noise sensitive kiddos.
Get There Early
The doors usually open an hour before the show, which gives you enough time to get inside and check out some of the photo props and souvenir displays. We also made sure to stop by the bathroom before we headed to our seats and it was nice that we didn’t feel rushed. The boys were able to explore a little bit and see what arena life is like from the concession sales to the stadium seating. It’s all part of the experience for kids!
Dress Comfortably
The Disney On Ice website advises that the temperature in the arena is typically 10+ degrees cooler than outside. When we entered the arena, it was a very comfortable temperature. I brought a sweatshirt for each of my boys just in case they would’ve been chilly but they never needed them. But really, it depends on your body temperature — if you’re usually cold then you’ll want warmer clothes.
Disney On Ice Outfit Ideas
I put the boys in Mickey Mouse t-shirts for this special occasion but I did see some kiddos in their cute princess costumes. I found Mickey Mouse t-shirts at both Walmart and Target just in case you’re looking for Disney apparel. So whether your child’s choice is a full Disney costume or their favorite Disney t-shirt, it makes the event that much more special to get in the Disney spirit with their outfit.
Choose Your Disney On Ice Show
Disney On Ice has multiple shows available for your viewing pleasure. But which one is best for your family? Each show will have a different theme and feature different characters so be sure to pick one that will interest your child. We saw Disney On Ice Mickey’s Search Party which was a perfect performance for my boys. It featured popular songs from many Disney movies and many infamous Disney characters so it was definitely perfect for my boys!
Disney On Ice featuring Mickey’s Search Party is a brand-new adventure filled show with world-class skating, high-flying acrobatics, and unexpected stunts! The kids will help follow Captain Hook’s treasure map and look for clues in the search for Tinker Bell in immersive, fantastic worlds. Explore the colorful spirit realm of Coco in Miguel’s Disney On Ice debut, sail away with Moana as she bravely saves her island, see Belle in the sky above as the enchanted chandelier comes to life, and sing-along with Elsa in the icy world of Frozen. Make memories with your whole family during Aladdin, Toy Story and The Little Mermaid as the search party becomes an all-out magical celebration on the ice, in the air, and all around!
Set Expectations for Kids
Let the kids know that the show will have an intermission so they will have a chance to move a bit and use the bathroom again. Also, be prepared that there are toys for sale and more than likely your kids will want them. Since the arena is dark for the show, light up toys are very popular. It’s probably best to know before heading to the show that there will be toy temptation everywhere and you can set a limit for your kids on what you’re willing to spend. You can also bring in your own light up toys, to join in the festivities while saving a few dollars!
Get Your Tickets
Another tip for Disney On Ice with kids is to book early if you want the best seats! We were front and center and I highly recommend it! My boys could see the characters up close and sometimes a character would dash right in front of them in the aisle. It just felt like we were surrounded by the magic. The characters were sure to involve the audience in higher up seats as well. I think spending a little extra for better seats is worth the cost, however, I think the show was magical for all of the families in the arena and I doubt there is a bad seat in the house.
