Pumpkin Math Activity for Preschoolers
My boys love the little mini erasers so we figured out a way to put them to good use with this number recognition activity. This activity does not require a lot of prep, it is simple to set up and the kiddos will love it. You can use the pumpkin math activity with your preschoolers or kindergartener and expect it to be a hit! Both of my boys enjoyed practicing their numbers and counting with this pumpkin math printable!
Pumpkin math activity materials
- To prepare this game I first printed the mat on white cardstock. You can laminate the game for durability but a plastic page protector would also work.
- Pumpkin erasers or even orange pom poms would work. *Safety note: erasers are small so only use with children who will not put them in their mouths and always supervise.
Directions for the pumpkin math activity
Gather the pumpkin erasers in a cup.
Let the child put the pumpkin erasers on the vine to match the numeral above the vine. If the child doesn’t get it right, gently help them.
Repeat this activity for any numbers your child is having trouble recognizing. This activity makes the perfect activity for a math center and is also perfect to play at home to solidify the recognition that written numbers correspond to a number with a physical value.
Tips for this fall activity for preschoolers
This type of math activity makes learning fun for kids, while not feeling like you are pressuring the child to learn. Many young children in preschool and even in kindergarten have trouble learning how to count objects individually. This fall pumpkin activity provides preschoolers a chance to develop their one-to-one correspondence skill while also practicing number recognition. As an added bonus, think about the fine motor skills practice they are getting!
