The Fall Craft Backstory
We love seasonal crafts for kids. They get kids excited for the upcoming holiday or season and the materials are readily available in stores. Most of the supplies for this activity I actually found in the dollar store but they are available on Amazon as well for convenience.
The boys love the gel window clings and they always come in so many cute shapes and festive colors. I’ve wondered before what kind of crafts can I use them for besides sticking them to the window. This snow globe craft was an experiment and it worked out well!
The window clings made for such an easy way to decorate the jar and the boys were really excited to shake their new fall snow globes. We keep them near our kitchen table so the boys shake them for entertainment when they are waiting for me to get their meals ready.
How do you make the DIY Snow Globe fall craft for kids?
- Decide what you would like to put in your snow globe. We used pumpkin gel window clings.
- Press your gel clings firmly to the sides of the jar.
- Fill your jar with water.
- Squeeze glitter glue inside the jar. The glue helps the glitter fall slower.
- Screw the lid on the jar — use hot glue if you’re concerned about your child trying to open it.
- Shake, shake, shake!
Tips for the fall kid’s snow globe craft
Almost any jar works for this fall craft for kids, I prefer a wide mouth jar to easily put things inside and also plastic since this fall activity is for kids. You can find the gel clings at so many different stores, the dollar store, Target, and even grocery stores have them around holidays. If you want the glitter to fall more slowly, you may add glycerin, which is found at drugstores. Many DIY snow globe activities use it but since we didn’t have any on hand, the glitter glue works just fine. Also, if you would like it to be more glittery, you can add a teaspoon of extra glitter in. I added one drop of green food coloring in the green snow globe in order to get the green water color.
- Plastic wide mouth jar with lid
- Optional to add glycerin
- Sprinkle extra glitter for more sparkle
- Add a drop of food coloring to change the color of the water
