DIY Birthday Party Decorations and Chalk Markers

Disclosure a product was received to review. All opinions are my own.

Birthdays are FUN and these DIY ideas keep birthday party decorations inexpensive and manageable!

We celebrate 3 birthdays in October, talk about busy! Decorating for birthdays can be expensive so I used DIY birthday party decorations that can be reused and personalized for each person. I’m really excited to share a few of these DIY birthday party decoration ideas with you and they all use chalkboard markers.

DIY Birthday Party Decorations Using Chalk Markers

Before I received these chalk markers for review purposes, I had not used chalk markers before and I realize just how much I was missing out on!

The chalk markers I used were Chalkola Liquid Chalk Pens (6mm) and Chalkola Platinum Chalk Markers (15mm). They are intended for non-porous surfaces – just write, wipe, and create! These markers are loved by teachers (I know they made my TEACHER heart happy!), kids and parents, and crafters for DIY projects. They come in an assortment of bright colors and can be used for a variety of purposes.

Birthday Party Decoration Ideas

Start with a warm welcome to the party with an easel and a chalk marker message! This is the easiest DIY birthday party decoration! I’m far from an artist but really enjoyed getting creative for a few minutes while the kids napped. Don’t have an easel – use poster board! (I picked up a pack of 5 at Dollar Tree!)

Use chalkboard tags and chalk pens to label the food table at your party. I was unhappy with my handwriting so I just wiped with a damp cloth and wrote it again (and again!). I found the Chalkola chalk pens worked best for this task since I had more control over the size of my writing.

These chalkboard tags probably weren’t non-porous because after the chalk paint dried I really couldn’t get it to erase all the way. No biggie though because I picked up this two-pack of labels at Michael’s for $1.50!

What’s a birthday party without a goody bag?! Here’s a way for the kids to get creative. Have them grab a goody bag, decorate, fill with a favorite treat, and then take it home. THIS was a birthday party home run!

The chalk markers also worked to write a message on this picture frame and it wiped right off.

Here’s a wrapping paper idea! Such an inexpensive way to wrap presents is to buy a solid color wrapping paper (from the dollar store) and then decorate it. My toddler really enjoyed decorating the wrapping paper for his baby brother’s birthday present!

I loved the Chalkola Chalkboard Markers (15mm) for his little hands!

There are endless ideas to use these chalk markers for other DIY projects that I will share in the future! I hope these birthday party ideas inspired you to get creative with chalk markers – they are fun, colorful, and take projects from ordinary to extraordinary!

Such cool markers! I’ve never used chalk markers before, but they look like a lot of fun. The decorations are great. I especially love how your son decorated the bag for his brother. My boys would love to do that.

Thank you, Shann! They were a lot of fun – for me and the toddler! ;) I couldn’t believe they were erasable and can be used on so many surfaces.

Adorable! I literally learned only a week or so ago that chalk markers existed. SOOOO for all this time I have been trying to create extravagant chalk art with regular chalk! And I’m pretty sure that some of the decorative chalk boards that I have are not even meant to be written on with REAL chalk. lol! I NEED some of these I’m my life asap. My kids birthday party is next sunday and I’m so excited! Kids parties are so fun!

Crazy, right?! I have seen these fancy chalk supplies in stores but never paid attention (go figure with 2 boys in tote!) But, yes a lot of fun and versatile. Happy Birthday to your little one!! :)
