Stories have always been a big part of our family routine and we enjoy adding new books to our collection. When you add a children’s book that teaches acceptance, well, it makes it to the top of our reading materials. This is a beautiful story about Ally Alien, her cat Star, and a gaggle of earthlings. The earthlings are not very kind to Ally Alien when they first meet her but as the story unfolds, they ultimately learn an important lesson. They learn that acceptance and kindness towards others opens the door for new friendships. The illustrations certainly caught the attention of my kids. Integrating interesting vocabulary, written in rhyme, brightly colored illustrations, and a positive message, my kids are picking up new words, reinforcing values, and having fun reading!
I am so proud that my children can see themselves, their experiences, between the pages. There is a diverse character selection and my son immediately connected with the main character when he said to me, “I have freckles too, mom.” I hope this book is one that will continue to inspire my kids and others!
