Freckle Face From Outer Space written by Margaret Montavon and illustrated by Collette Castleford is a children’s book that teaches acceptance that you will want to add to your home library!
About Freckle Face from Outer Space
Stories have always been a big part of our family routine and we enjoy adding new books to our collection. When you add a children’s book that teaches acceptance, well, it makes it to the top of our reading materials. This is a beautiful story about Ally Alien, her cat Star, and a gaggle of earthlings. The earthlings are not very kind to Ally Alien when they first meet her but as the story unfolds, they ultimately learn an important lesson. They learn that acceptance and kindness towards others opens the door for new friendships. The illustrations certainly caught the attention of my kids. Integrating interesting vocabulary, written in rhyme, brightly colored illustrations, and a positive message, my kids are picking up new words, reinforcing values, and having fun reading!

I am so proud that my children can see themselves, their experiences, between the pages. There is a diverse character selection and my son immediately connected with the main character when he said to me, “I have freckles too, mom.” I hope this book is one that will continue to inspire my kids and others!

For Parents and Teachers
Teaching a culture of acceptance starts early on. As an educator, part of our role is to foster an environment of acceptance. This involves creating a culture of daily acceptance of ourselves and others, building self-esteem, and reducing bullying.
In a world full of amazing people, we all encounter life differently. Feeling as if you don’t fit in is tough, especially for children. One tool that can help parents and teachers in the task of including others is books that open discussion, characters that your child can relate to, and stories about being different, being yourself, and including others. Children’s books about acceptance guide kids:
- that it’s okay to be different
- to recognize what makes them special
- to celebrate the uniqueness of others
Reading children’s books about acceptance can help you discuss these issues on a level your child can understand.
